In the window

In the window

2013

5-channel video installation with stereo sound.

The installation shows different perspectives on the same event - the movement of the character in the window. We see the street below and people passing by as well as her moving around from the house across the street and the street view perspective, sometimes

simultaneously.

The character in the window wears a hospital gown. Filmed in early spring the installation is a comment on Michael Foucault’s books Civilization and Madness: (…) and Society Must be Defended where the meaning of madness and its evolution in Europe from the middle age until the end of 18th century is discussed. A time when the influence of social structures changed the view on the Other.

Positioned above the people on the street, the view from the window is similar to a bird’s perspective and surveillance.
